San Francisco-based photographer Carey Fruth portrayed women of varying body types in her series “American Beauty,” capturing them posed on romantic flower beds. The series aimed to redefine the concept of beauty in the United States. Carey found her inspiration from a scene in the 1999 film with the same title, where Kevin Spacey fantasizes about one of his daughter’s friends in a suggestive manner. They released this film in 1999 with the same name.

Fruth explained that, “By immersing themselves in a realm of fantasy and releasing their anxieties, these women redirect the energy they once spent on self-doubt to other areas of their lives.” She shared this perspective in an interview with Huffpost.
