At the age of 12, Ash Soto discovered that she had vitiligo. A young girl’s question about whether she had used bleach during showers triggered embarrassment as her vitiligo rapidly spread. Now 21, the young woman embraces her skin’s color without any shame and even finds joy in it.

In her late teens, Soto decided not to let her skin’s color hinder her aspirations. Every day, she challenged herself, like stepping out in public without a long-sleeved shirt. Soto triumphed over numerous challenges, transforming her body into a canvas. “It really helps to bring out the different colors of my skin,” Soto told Daily Mail. “I never realized how beautiful my vitiligo was until I traced it with a black marker.” Now, she adorns her body with paintings, turning herself into various artworks, including Van Gogh’s “Starry Night,” and she has no intention of stopping. What was once regarded as a flaw is now a source of cherished and appreciated uniqueness.
